The local RCMP, Family Services and other essential service staff have referred several Elders, individuals and families that require items such as immediate food, diapers, baby formula or iron rich foods for children diagnosed with TB. The average total voucher redemption amount is $115. This program does not provide on-going support (such as a food bank) but instead, provides one-off immediate relief and has become an important community safety net.
WHY EMERGENCY VOUCHERS?
Assistance in the form of vouchers benefit recipients because they provide immediate access to food and critical supplies in a way that is respectful of individual and family diet and nutrition needs and they empower people to feed themselves.
