2019 Igloolik Food Bank Christmas Hampers

Akittiq Angutiqjuaq and her team in Igloolik have been busy making Christmas magic … In addition to the toy drive, the food bank was hoping to provide 400 Christmas Hampers, each stuffed with all the groceries needed to make a family Christmas dinner.
…. and you know what? 🤔⁉️ They completely KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK !!! 💥 Enough funding was secured to purchase groceries for the 400 hampers PLUS include a Bannock Pack in each hamper, PLUS include some fruit in each hamper, PLUS host a community New Years Feast !!! …. (and there is still maybe one other surprise in the works!) 🎊 RIGHT ON !!!

Every year, as the holidays approach, families gather together to celebrate with festive decorations, feasts and an exchange of gifts. It’s easy to forget that there are many families struggling just to put food on the table. This is especially true in the Canadian high Arctic where groceries are extremely expensive, often 2 – 3 times higher than the rest of Canada!
That’s why we are helping the Igloolik Food Bank provide Christmas Hampers to Igloolik families with Christmas dinner groceries and gifts for their children.
We are hoping to fill each Christmas Hamper with 1) All the fixin’s to make a family Christmas dinner, and 2) A Christmas Stocking for each child 16 years of age and under.
Total dollars raised will determine the amount of groceries purchased and provided to households. The Igloolik Food Bank Christmas Grocery Hampers are made possible because hardworking Igloolik Food Bank volunteers and the generous support of corporate donations and donations from people like you. Thank you all so much. It is appreciated more than you know. Merry Christmas!
It is with full hearts that we share the happy news that the Christmas Dinner fundraising goal has been met !!! Exceeded in fact. Props to Akittiq and her team in Igloolik for working hard and together to bring the magic of Christmas to all households in the Hamlet this holiday season. Awesome stuff!

We will continue to fundraise for the Igloolik Food Bank to help ensure they have the resources for on-going bi-weekly distribution and the ability to fulfill requests from those that find themselves in no-food situations. Thank you!

Thank you to all that participated. Akittiq has been overwhelmed with Christmas gifts and stockings arriving in the mail. Looks like with your help, we knocked Christmas out of the park for the children in Igloolik again this year!
