You care about the health of children and so it’s time to do something about it.
In Canada each month, over 850,000 people turn to food banks for help; more than one-third are children and youth. In Nunavut, nearly 70% of preschool Inuit children live in food insecure households. Of these children, 25% are severely food insecure. A Nunavut Child Health Survey found the life experience of severely food insecure children includes:
90% go hungry • 76% skip meals • 60% go a day without eating
Your compassion can make a difference in the lives of many kids in Nunavut that are going to bed hungry. Food insecurity is harmful to all people, but it is particularly devastating to children. Proper nutrition is critical to a child’s development. Not having enough of the right kinds of food can have serious implications for a child’s physical and mental health, academic achievement and future economic prosperity.
SKIP-A-MEAL for Nunavut
You can help feed Canadian children by skipping a meal or brown bagging a healthy lunch and donating the money you would have spent on lunch to our cause. Nunavut’s most vulnerable children need your support. We hope to raise $50,000 during this campaign. These dollars will help fund Nunavut school meal programs and remote Arctic food banks and soup kitchens that provide free emergency food aid and rely on donations from people like you to serve their communities.
$10
A $10 donation could purchase a healthy snack for three elementary students.
$25
A $25 donation could help a Soup Kitchen provide a hot meal to five people.
$50
A $50 donation could provide a food bank grocery voucher for a family.
$250
A $250 donation could fund a one week supply of caribou stew for lunchless students.

About Feeding Nunavut
Feeding Nunavut is a registered non-for-profit organization established to raise awareness of the challenges in the Canadian north and to advocate for change. Our short term focus is helping northern feeding programs provide emergency food relief. However, food insecurity is part of a deeper, complicated issue. It involves poverty, climate change, housing, education, health and mental health. We advocate for these issues as well. For further information about Feeding Nunavut or the Skip-A-Meal For Nunavut campaign, email us or call Taye at 905-599-7900.
